Workplace Lighting and your Health

Most every office or workplace you enter will be lit by fluorescent lights because they give the most light for the buck. Unfortunately they are the cool white color which has a lot of excess yellow color in it and hardy any blue color. Blue color controls your eyes pupils if there is not enough blue in the light your pupils stay wide open and let in too much light. If the workplace had full spectrum fluorescent lights with all colors available your pupil would close up and only let in the light that your eyes needed.

Cool white fluorescent lights cause eyestrain, headaches, fatigue and many other problems. Full spectrum lights give you a comfortable light a light that your eyes were designed for. Under full spectrum light you will have much better depth of field, see vivid colors, have little or no glare on your computer screen.

Research has been done on school children in classrooms with cool white lights and classrooms with full spectrum lights the teachers were aware of the study which took time lapse photos of the children at random intervals. The children in the cool white class demonstrated hyperactivity, fatigue, irritability and attention deficits. The children in the full spectrum classroom within 1 month, behavior and classroom performance as well as overall academic achievement improved markedly. Furthermore several learning disabled children with extreme hyperactivity problems, miraculously calmed down and seemed to overcome some of their learning and reading problems while in the classroom.

A study was done in Germany with cool white vs. full spectrum fluorescent lights and they checked for changes in the endocrine system, they found that the cool white individuals had stress like levels of ACTH and cortisol ( the stress hormones ) these changes did not happen under the full spectrum lights. Based on this research and that of others Germany banned cool white fluorescent lights in hospitals and medical facilities.

Sunlight striking the skin initiates a series of reactions in the body leading to the production of vitamin D a necessary ingredient for the absorption of calcium and other minerals from the diet.

Residents of nursing homes that can not get outside should have access to full spectrum lighting.

Dr. John Ott the father of time lapse photography did quite a bit of research on light and he found that every nutritional substance and medicine has a specific wavelength absorption if those wavelengths are missing in the artificial light then the nutritional or other benefits of the substance will not be utilized.

If you find yourself going from home to work and back home again, it might be time to do your body a favor and add some full spectrum lighting into the mix of lights in your home and office, your body will thank you.

Top Ten Hints For House-Hunting Success In Australia

Whether youre a first home buyer, a property investor or you just want a change of scenery, house hunting can be an exhausting and confusing experience but it does not have to be. With a little careful planning and forethought, it can actually be a pleasure!

1. Be realistic: Before you start house hunting, determine your budget by figuring out what you can afford in monthly mortgage repayments. Allow for ongoing maintenance costs, rates, family expenses (such as schooling), holidays, insurances and other living expenses.

2. Get pre-approval: If possible, have your bank or mortgage broker obtain a pre-approval for a home loan. This will determine how much you can afford to spend and enable you to make a genuine offer when you do find the house of your dreams.

3. Needs versus wants: You may want a seven-bedroom, five-bathroom house with a heated pool, four-car garage, gourmet kitchen and spectacular water views, but do you really NEED it? A spare room might be nice, but if your budget is tight it may not be affordable right now, so think carefully about what you need before you start house hunting.

4. Make a checklist: Write down the features interior and exterior you want in your new home and take the list with you on your inspection tour, marking each item with a score from 1 to 10. Features might include the size of the property, condition of the bathrooms, proximity to schools, etc. Again, make sure your checklist includes things that are most important to you.

5. Snap it: Take a camera to capture a quick image of each house that could suit you. This will help you to recall what youve seen at the end of the day. Its also a good idea to carry a small note book and record details about each property that may not be included in advertising or promotional material.

6. Dont rush: Buying a home can take time, research and careful thought, so dont make a decision just because you feel pressured, tired or emotional. Carefully weigh the pros and cons of each property you inspect and then and only then if it suits your requirements, make an offer. Keep in mind the property that suits your requirements may also be the first one you see.

7. Get a second opinion: Before you make a final decision its a good idea to have the property inspected by a professional building and pest inspector. They can point out any faults you may not have noticed, including problems in the roof, foundations, walls or general construction.

8. Other costs: Before you make an offer, find out how much the rates or other maintenance expenses are on an annual basis, then add these to other expenses to determine how much you can afford to spend (see point one).

9. Look at potential: When looking at a property, try to look past old dcor, peeling paint or overgrown landscaping and focus instead on its layout and size. Cosmetic shortcomings can always be fixed once you buy the house.

10. Be competitive: When you find the house that suits your needs (as opposed to your wants) make an offer that is fair and in line with the current market. Keep in mind youre probably competing against others to buy the house, so a reasonable initial offer will let the seller know youre serious.

The Roles And Duties Of The Parole Or Probation Officer In The Criminal Justice Field

The Parole or Probation Officer plays important roles in the criminal justice field. Those interested in this profession will have active and exciting duties to perform. I will be discussing some of those roles and duties in this article.

If you are indeed contemplating a career as a probation or parole officer, below are the duties you can look forward to performing:

1.Dont let the names or titles fool you. In most criminal justice systems, parole or probation officers perform the same roles and duties. In the few criminal justice systems where their roles are different, the parole officer is involved after the offenders have served some of their time in prison while the probation officer works with those who are given probation sentence. This probation sentence does not require serving some time in prison.

2.The probation or parole officer is involved in pre-sentence investigations. The courts need help when sentencing a convicted criminal. The criminals character and records are important. It would be unfair to sentence a person who just committed a crime for the first time to the same sentence as a habitual offender.

This is where the parole or probation officer must help the courts. He or she will investigate the offenders record. This can be done by talking to friends, family, and digging into public records. The probation or parole officer must then present his or her findings to the court to help guide the courts sentencing.

3.The parole or probation officer is involved in pre-parole investigations. Again the investigation will involve digging into the convicted criminals behavior and record while in prison. The parole or probation officer will accomplish this by talking to wardens, relatives, complainants, and even the police.

4.The probation or parole officer is involved in the rehabilitation of the parolee. In this instance, the officer must help plan the parolees effective re-introduction into society. This will involve helping the parolee acquire job training, job, and social skills by recommending the appropriate resources. The parole or probation officer must also monitor how the parolee in progressing in these resources.

5.Probation or parole officers have the power to arrest parolees or probationers. If a parolee or probationer breaks the terms of the parole and the probation or parole officer feels it has become necessary to send him or her to jail, then they must arrest the parolee.

This means parole or probation officers can carry guns. While they are advised to seek police assistance if the need for arrest arises, there are times police will not be readily available. So a gun may be needed in case the situation becomes dangerous.

As you can see, probation or parole officers perform many roles or duties in the criminal justice field. It will be hard to cover all the duties and roles in this short article. Lung Cancer Prognosis

Prognosis deals with predicting about the way a disease spreads and its possible outcomes. Prognosis includes chances of recovery from the disease too. It is advisable to remember that prognosis is just a prediction and can change during the course of treatment. Doctors inform patients about the stage and treatment of the disease to help them deal with it and be prepared for all eventualities.

Sometimes an agent may not be worth the effort or money. Take notice if an agent does any of the following.

- Won't return calls or answer emails in a timely manner. A return call within 24 hours is reasonable. A call within a few hours or immediately is even better.

- Tries to steer you to certain travel suppliers that do not line up with your priorities.

- Rushes you through your meetings or calls. You should be able to spend as much time as you need to discuss your trip and ask as many questions as you want.

- Claims to be an expert on every product and every destination in the world. This is unrealistic. The sheer number of destinations and options available means a travel agent's expertise must be focused to be truly valuable. The best agents are often specialists in a certain product, such as cruises, or in a destination, such as the Caribbean.

Fees

It's a good idea to find out the fees up front. Agents may charge a fee for each product, such as the flight, charge you one flat rate, or be paid solely on commission. But if having a wonderful vacation is more important to you than getting the cheapest deal, expect to compensate the agent for his or her time, advice, and work. In the end, the fee is often a small price to pay compared to the value you get.

Something wonderful clicked inside my head a few years back after my dangerous escape from Cubic-Hell. It's weird because it just evolved kind of naturally. The only way I can describe it is a complete 100% aversion to doing anything at all that I don't find enjoyable...and the ability to actually get away with it.

Let me give you an insider look at a typical transaction on a typical day in my most NON-typical life:

One of my student's cell phone rings (I do all my work with students now. I don't have time for any of my own marketing anymore). Ring! They answer and take down some brief information about the situation and email the lead over to me. I take a look at it and we fax over an offer without seeing the property. The seller accepts it and faxes it back. We send out an email advertising the property for $10,000-$50,000 more than we put it under contract for. Someone calls me and buys it. Title company sends us a check. 17 minutes work total. I never left Starbucks. Tough life; I know.

You sense impending manual labor in your near future, and some sick part of you is wondering if you murder yourself violently is there any way you can still go to heaven (probably not).

The lady on the other end is hysterical. She's losing the house to auction in two weeks and she needs you to close tomorrow with cash. Your worst nightmares are confirmed; you are indeed about to do alot of work that you hate. You wish it would've been the Scream guy calling instead and that he would stalk you down and end your misery quickly.

You spend the next hour on the phone going over all of her options with her. You're trying to nudge her in the direction of allowing you to do a short sale. By the way way, for those of you who may not know, a short sale is nothing more than going directly to the seller's bank and offering them less than the amount of the loan. She finally agrees to see you in person.

You drive an hour and a half to the seller's house. You've brought a notary with you because her signature on the deed transfer has to be notarized (so far as I recall). That's real convenient. You don't even like your notary. The drive over is awkward. You spend three and a half hours listening to the seller's genuinely sad story before talking her into giving you the deed to her house. You leave depressed for the next 3 weeks.

Now the real fun begins. You submit the short sale package to the bank and wait about...a month. In the meantime you meet the bank's appraiser back out at the house (hour and a half drive) and attempt to use every NLP Jedi mind trick you know of to influence his appraisal. It's a $400,000 house on a golf course, but because you've gone through Jeff Kaller's course and know what to say, the appraisal comes back at $99,000. LOL So far so good.

I failed to mention that during this whole time you have also been attempting to market the property to a suitable buyer. To this end, you have physically fixed the house up (ew), given it to a realtor to list (double "ew"), and some other stuff that I'm sure I'm forgetting but will remember later after it's too late. Why are you doing this all in advance when the short sale hasn't (and may never) even been approved? Because you have to be ready to move at the speed of light once that short sale is approved. You'll have 30 days. That's it. Use it or lose it.

So the stars align, you find your buyer, and the bank approves the short sale. Happens all the time. Top notch short sale investors make a boat load of money; don't get me wrong. They just work 90 hours a week is all. And as we all are well aware of by now...that's against my religion. :-)

Now, you just sit back and wait for the closing date. Simply stay on top of the buyer. Make sure his loan goes through, he closes, and you don't lose the house back to the bank. Well, in this case - it doesn't, he doesn't, and you do (lose the house that is). Just happened to a friend of mine yesterday. Bummer. Do 10-30 houses at once, simultaneously, non-stop, and at all times of life, and a decent number of them will actually go through. Welcome to paradise. Total time spent - 2 months.

Ah, but alas - we are not forced to answer such limiting questions as these because we do not dwell in the parched land of "either-or" thinking! We live in the Promised Land of abundance where "both-and" is the only way to fly. We needn't limit ourselves. We can have both the luxury of Starbucks and the fruits of the hellacious labor...without doing the labor!

Ok. You do it by spending your time doing what you find enjoyable while outsourcing everything else. In this case, you are outsourcing your short sales. There are two ways to go about doing this. You can either find a company that will do nothing more than process your short sale with the bank and hand it back to you or you can find someone who will do absolutely everything (and I mean everything). In the case of the former, you are paying these people about 35% of the total profit while doing alot of work still. In the case of the latter, you are getting a 25% finders fee (usually) and doing absolutely nothing but emailing leads over.

Guess which one I do. Yeah, that shouldn't be hard right? I take 25% and do nothing. Currently I have THIRTY FIVE deals in with my short sale guy. I have no idea where he's at with any of them and frankly I'm not overly concerned. I simply get checks from him every week due to deals closing that I have nothing to do with. Free money as far as I'm concerned.

If you want the situation I have, you are going to have to look around and find someone reliable who knows what the heck they are doing. This will take some time. The guy I use is the best in Florida hands down. He has buyers lined up waiting for all these deals to clear with the bank. It's awesome.

Learn to Learn for Better Grades

Do you know a student that is struggling in school? Children have a difficult time learning for many different reasons. Some scenarios are more complex than others and may even require the assistance of a professional. There is a reasonably straight-forward solution for some students. I am referring to students that are experiencing difficulties because they have never learned how to learn.

What does it mean to learn to learn? It means learning to understand and use various systematic approaches to obtain and store knowledge. A student that has learned to learn will achieve greater success in school without experiencing the frustration that can result with a student that has not. It is possible that the struggling student has never had the opportunity to be introduced to learning systems. It could also be that the student has not had enough exposure to such systems.

There many different learning systems that students should become familiar with and use. Two of the most powerful and useful tools that will help a student succeed in school are Phonics and Mnemonic devices.

Phonics is a learning system that teaches students to associate specific sounds with specific letters or combinations of letters. This allows them to combine multiple sounds together and pronounce words that they have not seen before. Phonics contributes greatly to success in reading. Reading skills are extremely important to the ability to learn any subject.

Mnemonic devices are memory aids that assist in the recall of information. They are developed around the use of a technique called association. Association is the mental linking of things we want to learn with things we already know.

A student striving to memorize all the states on a map of the USA would benefit from the use of association. The student could observe the shape of a state and identify any characteristics of the shape that have some relation to the name of that state. For example, the state of Kansas has a shape that is fairly rectangular much like the view of an empty soda can that has been tossed to the ground. It also has one corner that does not conform to a rectangle shape. That corner could be thought of as the drinking hole on the soda can. These characteristics would allow the student to associate the visual shape of Kansas with the word Can as in soda can. Once the student is able to look at the shape on the map and recall the word Can, recall of the state name Kansas becomes a significantly easier task.

There are many types of mnemonic devices. Some are easier to implement than others. One of the most basic and useful types of mnemonic devices uses memorable sentences to remember lists of items.

For example, students learning to read music are often introduced to the mnemonic Every Good Boy Does Fine. Selecting the first letter of each word in the mnemonic gives you EGBDF. These are the musical notes that appear on the lines of the Treble Clef.

Mnemonics are also used to help students learn computer networking. Networking students must remember the seven layers of the OSI Reference Model. The names of these layers are Physical, Data-Link, Network, Transport, Session, Presentation, and Application. One of the mnemonics students use to remember these names is Please Do Not Throw Sausage Pizza Away.

Notice that the mnemonics mentioned above use very simple terms such as boy and pizza along with some filler words. It is also sometimes helpful if the mnemonic is a little silly and fun but it is not mandatory.

Some students struggle to achieve the grades they would like to obtain in school. A select number of these students could make great improvements by using learning systems such as phonics and mnemonics. If you know a student that is having a difficult time in school, consider if the student needs to be introduced or reintroduced to learning systems. A small suggestion could make a big difference in the life of a child.

History of Alaska

Alaska was first populated by humans who came across from Asia via the Bering Land Bridge. It was via this route that most, if not all, of the pre-Columbian population reached the Americas. The Native American population included Inupiaq, Inuit and Yupik Eskimos, and Aleuts.

The first Europeans to reach Alaska came from Russia. Alaska became a Russian colony in 1744, although the first Russian settlement was founded only in 1784. Spanish ships also explored the coast and made some settlements during the 18th century. The names of some Spanish settlements such as Cordova and Valdez survive to this today.

Following the British North America Act of 1867, which created the unified dominion of Canada, U.S. Secretary of State William Seward urged, and the U.S. Senate approved, a treaty purchasing Alaska from Imperial Russia for US$7,200,000. The U.S. took possession of the territory, and raised the American flag on October 18th, 1867, which is still commemorated as "Alaska day". After the purchase, the area was initially called the Department of Alaska. Between 1884 and 1912, it was called the District of Alaska. Alaska was granted territorial status in 1912.

During World War II, three of the outer Aleutian Islands (Attu, Agattu and Kiska) were occupied by Japanese troops. This was the only area within the current borders of the United States to have been occupied by enemy forces during the war.

On January 3rd, 1959, Alaska became a US state.

On March 27th, 1964, a major earthquake, known as the "Good Friday Earthquake" or "Great Alaska Earthquake", hit Alaska killing 131 people, and causing tsunamis which destroyed several towns and villages.

Incontinence in Children

Incontinence in children is temporary in nature and most of them become continent without any medical intervention, whatsoever. Different Kinds of Enuresis or Incontinences in Children

Nocturnal enuresis is the most common and prevalent type wherein a child of either sex above the age of 5 years wets the bed. The second type is a primary enuresis wherein a child suffers from bed-wetting for more than six months. A related category of primary enuresis is the secondary enuresis where the child has stopped bed-wetting for almost six months or more but continues it again. The worst of these all is the diurnal enuresis where the child wets during the day, may be more than once. Some kids may have the symptoms of both diurnal and nocturnal enuresis and be prone to wetting clothes during any part of the day.

It is said that no two fingers are alike and the same holds true for different immune systems in different children. Some start walking at a very early age and others may take a lot of time. If one of the parents used to have the habit of wetting their beds during childhood, 40% chances are that the child will also have the same habit. The condition becomes worse if both the parents had a history of bed-wetting in their childhood, as chances of their offspring developing bed-wetting increase by 80%.

Physical and structural defects have their contributions in leading to the symptom of bed-wetting, but these are not as strong as genetic factors. Make sure that the child is living a stress-free life and is not going through any emotional turmoil, whatsoever. Be calm and friendly with the child and avoid scolding him or her because of the condition. Remember, they do not do it purposely!
