In a vacation or country house, it is not recommended to use wall to wall carpeting that cannot be lifted and cleaned in this manner. One solution that works well in a vacation or country home is hemp matting whose squares are sewn into any size required. This type of material makes a perfect floor covering for summer houses where dirt is contstantly tracked in: the dirt falls through it and then the matting can be lifted and all the dirt vacuumed away.
